Who We Are

Melanie Abramowitz is a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist through the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association (ASHA) and a certified Listening and Spoken Language Specialist in Auditory-Verbal Therapy through the Alexander Graham Bell Academy. She is licensed in the states of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and California. Melanie achieved her Bachelor of Science Degree in Communication, Sciences, and Disorders from Pennsylvania State University and her Master of Science Degree in Speech-Language Hearing Science from La Salle University, where she earned a scholarship for Development of Listening and Spoken Language. Prior to founding Speech Starts HEAR, Melanie worked as a Speech-Language Pathologist for 8 years in various settings such as public and private schools, in-home early intervention, outpatient clinics, and county programs. While Melanie has experience working with various speech and language disorders, she has extensive experience working with individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing and specializes in hearing related disorders including auditory processing disorder. Melanie works with deaf and hard of hearing individuals providing auditory verbal therapy through a listening and spoken language communication approach and is trained in American Sign Language working with clients utilizing a total communication approach. She believes strongly in the importance of building a strong foundational language and believes there is no "one size fits all" when it comes to communication modes. Melanie is prepared to guide, coach, educate, support, and empower families on their journey. 

Melanie currently resides in Philadelphia, PA, but her heart lies in California, where she lived for 3 years. She lives at home with her family which includes her daughter, Charlie and her cat, Rajah. She has a love for traveling, cycling, organizing, and trying new restaurants. Melanie is described by others as dedicated, organized, honest, hardworking, supportive, and caring.
